A Life of Spice – Raksha’s Story
The journey of our lives is also our culinary journey, food footprints where we have stopped to cook and in turn have been nourished by others. Memories evoked by food, its flavours, aroma and texture.
From Pre-Independence Delhi, via the fertile plains of rural Punjab, to 1960’s Birmingham, Anita’s mother, Raksha Devi has experienced an ever-changing culinary landscape.
Her recipe book invites you to explore this rich journey through her mother’s eyes and through Indian festivals, religious rites, weddings, and the arrival of new generations born in the UK.
Our Story
Spices have shaped the course of human history. They have inspired exploration, connected cultures, transformed cuisines, and created some of the world’s most valuable trading networks. At The Spice Trade, we bring these remarkable stories to life through a unique blend of food, history, culture, and discovery.
Our carefully curated spice hampers celebrate the world’s great trading routes and culinary traditions, while our book explores the fascinating people, places, and events behind the global spice trade.
